I
obtained my amateur radio license in 1972 and was able to get down to investigating various aspects of the hobby for a number of years. I then took a substantial break from amateur
radio while bringing up a family, but eventually got back into the hobby again a few years ago. I am now establishing my operating facilities again, while updating my knowledge of what has transpired in the intervening years.
I am a member of the local radio club, the ( Ayr
Amateur Radio Group ) Our club is very active in the community, and we put a lot of effort into encouraging new members of all ages, and into promoting the hobby in general.
My
main areas of interest in amateur radio have historically centred around data modes in
some form or other, so over time, I am re-establishing my ability to operate using data again. I am rarely on HF phone, but I do chip in on the local VHF nets.
Over
recent years, I have also developed a keen interest in all things to do wth Astronomy and
Cosmology, and I am a member of our local club, the ( Ayrshire
Astronomical Society ) My personal focus is not on honing
the skills associated with identifying constellations and stars, for I find that boring,
but rather on the bigger questions about our Universe, the physics that everything is based on, and in my own way, trying to achieve an understanding of the sheer enormity of it all.
I
also have the interests of, electronics construction, weather
satellite monitoring and computers in general. The learning gained over the years from these areas has provided a great
foundation for many of the other things I have done hobby-wise. I do not, however, claim to be any kind of
expert in these areas, but I do describe myself as an able and inquisitive individual when it comes to technology and science.
I
needed a place to organise and record my thoughts and activities, so
I created this web site for that purpose. I hope people find
things of interest here and possibly even some things to encourage their
own practical activities.
